Who I am

Hi, I'm Louisa. I'm a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience working with children and young people across a range of ages and abilities. After many years in the classroom, I moved into tutoring and home education, where I've found a way to combine my love of teaching with a more personalised, child-centred approach. Parents often describe me as warm, patient and encouraging. I believe that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and confident enough to take risks. My sessions are designed to be engaging, supportive and tailored to each child's individual needs and interests. As a parent myself, I understand that every child is different. I take time to build positive relationships and create learning experiences that help children develop not only academically but also in confidence, curiosity and self-belief.

Who I help

I work with a range of families and I'm always open to chat and be flexible with my approach. Children generally fit one of the following categories: Home educated children seeking structured or flexible learning opportunities Children who have lost confidence in their abilities Reluctant learners who need learning to feel more engaging and meaningful Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Pupils who benefit from learning at their own pace Families looking for enrichment opportunities beyond the traditional curriculum I particularly enjoy supporting children who may not have found their place within conventional educational settings and helping them rediscover a love of learning.

My specialisms

My areas of specialism include: Primary English and Maths and Science Creative writing and developing reluctant writers Home education programmes and project-based learning Supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs Building confidence and self-esteem through learning Study skills and independent learning Lego brick-based learning and creative enrichment activities Art journalling, creativity and wellbeing-focused learning Personalised learning programmes based on children's interests I believe learning should be engaging, purposeful and enjoyable, and I often incorporate children's interests into lessons to increase motivation and participation.

My experience with home educators

Since 2022, I have worked closely with many home educating families, both through one-to-one tuition and group learning programmes. I understand that every home education journey is unique. Some families follow a structured curriculum, while others prefer a child-led or interest-led approach. I am comfortable adapting my teaching style to fit the needs and philosophy of each family. I have designed and delivered a wide range of online courses and learning experiences for home educated children, including topics such as world cultures, STEM, creative writing, art journalling, science, LEGO-based learning and life skills. My focus is always on creating engaging opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning. Above all, I aim to be a supportive partner for families, providing high-quality educational experiences while respecting the individuality of each child's home education journey.
