I started supporting home-educating learners over a decade ago, when I gained more experience supporting students with SEN.
Around this time, I began being approached by home-educating families, and I quickly realised this was the kind of support I was naturally drawn to because my teaching style has always focused on supporting learners' autonomy rather than pushing students through a one-size-fits-all approach simply because it is the standard pathway in mainstream education.
-
A specialist and experienced maths tutor, offering secondary maths tuition and IGCSE exam preparation through small group classes.

After working with maths learners for over two decades and observing how they learn, I began to recognise three interconnected learning layers:
Skills, which is where most maths teaching naturally focuses
Systems, where home educators often have more freedom to find what works best for their learner
Self-trust, the deeper confidence and belief that allows learners to approach maths independently.
These layers are best supported when the young learner, their trusted adult, and the educator work together.
This collaborative approach is at the heart of home education, and it is something I actively support: preserving the parent's agency in their teen's education without requiring them to become a subject specialist, unless they choose to.
